Vinod Subramaniam (1967) is President of the Executive Board of the University of Twente. Prior to this, he served for six years as Rector Magnificus of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.Vinod obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University (USA), and continued his academic career at the University of Michigan, earning a Master’s degree in both Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics. He completed his PhD at the same university in 1996. He then worked as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen (Germany), and subsequently as a senior research scientist at AstraZeneca in Loughborough (UK), before coming to the Netherlands in 2004 as professor of nanobiophysics at the University of Twente.Vinod is, among other roles, a member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW), a fellow of the Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE), and a council member of the Advisory Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (AWTI). He is also one of the co-leads for Entrepreneurship and Impact for Universities of the Netherlands.
