Tripp Welch serves as Administrator for Mayo Clinic’s Program in Professionalism and Values, advancing the institution’s core principle: “The needs of the patient come first.” He develops and operationalizes standards of professionalism, organizational culture and ethical leadership across the academic medical center. As a member of the Mayo Clinic Values Council, he helps steward the Franciscan heritage of Saint Marys Campus within contemporary healthcare delivery.
Over a 30-year career at Mayo Clinic, Mr. Welch has held senior leadership roles in quality, patient experience, health equity and inclusion, clinical and research administration, human resources and strategic marketing. As Vice Chair of Quality, he led enterprise-wide initiatives in patient experience and health equity—key drivers of long-term health outcomes and system sustainability.
He holds bachelor’s degrees in biology and economics and a Master of Healthcare Administration. Before joining Mayo Clinic as an Administrative Fellow in 1996, he worked in cancer research, health policy and senior community administration, shaping his systems-level perspective on health beyond clinical care.
Beyond Mayo Clinic, Mr. Welch is active in civic leadership in Rochester, Minnesota. He serves as secretary of the Rochester Airport Board and treasurer of the Rochester Downtown Alliance, supporting regional development and urban vitality. His previous board service spans housing and redevelopment, early childhood initiatives, arts and cultural institutions, and children’s services—reflecting his commitment to the social and environmental determinants of health.
In a time of healthcare transformation toward prevention, equity and cross-sector collaboration, Mr. Welch brings a values-driven and operational perspective on how healthcare institutions and communities can jointly shape healthier futures.
