Dr Fritz Jaeckel, born in 1963, has been Director General of the North Westphalia Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Münster since 2018. Prior to this, he was Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the State Chancellery in the Free State of Saxony from 2014 to 2017 and State Secretary in the Saxon State Ministry for the Environment and Agriculture from 2012 to 2014. His career in the Saxon state administration began in 1994, and he also obtained his doctorate in law from the University of Münster in the same year. He studied law from 1983 to 1989 in Passau, Lausanne, Würzburg and Heidelberg. Jaeckel has also been a member of the WDR Administrative Board since 2019, was a member of the ZDF Television Council from 2014 to 2019 and a member of the Bundesrat from 2014 to 2018. In autumn 2021, he was appointed State Commissioner for Reconstruction after the flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia.
