Born in 1963 in Wanne‑Eickel, Babette studied in Münster, Paris and Konstanz, focusing on economic history. She earned her Dr. phil. in this field and went on to work in various European contexts in Paris, Brussels and Berlin. Since 2010, she has been engaged in climate action and in advancing the green hydrogen economy. 
In 2024, she became Head of WiN Emscher‑Lippe GmbH, the regional business development agency that supports the cities of Gelsenkirchen and Bottrop as well as the ten municipalities of the Recklinghausen district in driving regional transformation in the areas of demography, defossilisation and digitalisation.
